If you’re in the market for a battery-powered outdoor camera with solid features and minimal fuss, the TP-Link Tapo Wireless MagCam might be worth a look—especially with its current price drop to $69.99 (from $119.99). It reportedly captures videos in sharp 2K resolution, and with its built-in spotlights and color night vision, spotting details in your footage should be much easier, even in low-light conditions. That said, if the spotlights aren’t on or there’s no ambient light, the camera will switch to black-and-white night vision, according to this PCMag review.
Setting up the MagCam is pretty straightforward—just charge it, download the Tapo app, and follow the instructions. The app lets you manage motion detection, audio and video settings, spotlight brightness, network connectivity, and more. It connects via wifi and integrates well with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and other third-party devices, though Apple HomeKit isn’t supported. When it detects motion, its 4MP camera records video at 30fps with a 150-degree field of view and sends smart alerts, distinguishing between people, pets, and vehicles. You can choose to store the videos locally on a microSD card (up to 512GB, card sold separately) or in a cloud with a Tapo Care subscription, which starts at $3.49/month.
It is powered by a 10,000mAh rechargeable battery and is said to last up to 300 days, though actual battery life will depend on usage. For those who don’t want the hassle of recharging, the MagCam is also compatible with the Tapo A200 solar panel—and right now, you can get it bundled for $89.99, down from $159.98.
If HomeKit integration is a priority for you, you might want to consider the Eve Outdoor Cam for $244.99. And, if you want a camera with pan/tilt capabilities and a wider field of view, the Eufy Security SoloCam S340 at $199.99 could be a better fit.
