Although Threads supposedly has many more users than Bluesky, the Meta-owned social network appears to be taking its competition seriously. After adding Bluesky inspired features such as the ability to pick your own default feed, Threads is now adding one more—a better search. Specifically, Threads now lets you search posts by date and from specific profiles. This is perfect for zeroing in on certain posts that you remember, but are having trouble finding.
Threads is rolling out these advanced search tools “in the coming weeks,” so if you can’t spot them yet, rest assured that they’ll appear for you shortly. Once you have them, here’s how to use them.
-
Open Threads on any platform.
-
Select the magnifying glass icon to open the search tab.
-
Towards the right of the search bar, you’ll see a three-lines icon. Tap that to reveal the new search filters.
Threads’ new filters include the following:
-
After date: Search posts made after a specified date.
-
Before date: Search posts made before a specified date.
-
From profile: Find posts from a specific profile.

It’s all pretty self explanatory, but the exciting thing is that you can use multiple filters at the same time. For instance, you could use the date filters to find posts between December 2 and 4. Then, you could narrow it down further by using the “From profile” filter. This will allow you to easily find posts from that profile, so long as you know around when they were made.
While these new filters make searching on Threads a lot easier, they’re still not as robust as Bluesky’s advanced search features. On Bluesky, you can filter by date, time, language, profiles, username mentions, and more. Still, it’s good to see Threads adding these features, if only to get some more competition going.
