Like many people, my approach to shopping involves spending hours finding the things I want, adding them to my cart, then… doing nothing. I wait and wait until a sale strikes, then clear that cart right out. The bulk of my Amazon cart is comprised of home goods, from organizational tools to functional decor, and since those kinds of purchases aren’t cheap, I really take my time. During major shopping holidays, I admit I go a little overboard—which is what I’m doing this week for Black Friday. Here’s what I’m getting to make my home more organized and useful.
My favorite deals on organizational items during Black Friday
I was rather pleased to see that some of the organizational items in my cart were marked down for the shopping holiday this week. The first is this gorgeous storage ottoman, which is now $28.79. It was originally $35.99, so it’s down about $7, which is just right for me. I’m a big believer in using storage furniture—that is, functional furniture that also hides shelving or other space inside—to keep my home organized without looking cluttered, so I’m always on the lookout for new pieces. The less of my small stuff you see when you come over, the happier I am. I plan to store my light couch blanket in here, and the ottoman will look so much sharper than a throw tossed over the back of the sofa.
Relatedly, I’m also picking up a smaller storage mirror than the one I already have (and have repeatedly raved about). The one I currently use is a full-length, lighted mirror that opens up to hold jewelry and larger items, like hairspray. This smaller one, which is marked down to $38.75 from $45.99, also opens up to reveal jewelry storage—but I plan to use it for small lotions and other trinkets and am going to add it to the gallery wall I’ve been creating in my living room. (Bonus: The pink frame I want for my recently-acquired master’s degree, which is also going on the gallery wall, is on sale too, for $14.24.)
As is wildly apparent to anyone who has ever read any of my home decor posts, I love to color-coordinate my living space. The current theme of my apartment is pink and gold. (It’s possible I’m a little too committed—even my extension cords and surge protectors are pink.) For Black Friday, I am securing a major win: I’m swapping my plain under-sink storage racks for pink ones. Behold:
There are a few hard rules I follow when organizing my home. First, everything must be stored with similar items, and second, each category needs a designated space. Importantly, they must also be accessible. Under-sink racks like these, which have two shelves each and a variety of hooks, are perfect, especially because the bottom shelves pull out, making it easy to reach whatever you need whenever you need it and keep it all in order when you don’t.
In that spirit, I’m also picking up this three-tiered rolling cart. I’ve been meaning to get one, since they’re ideal for storing cleaning supplies that can then be schlepped easily around the home, and the pink version being on sale for $17.59 has me sold. (I told you I was committed.)
And don’t worry—those units all come in other colors. The pink is for me, but the sale is for shoppers of all tastes.
Other functional home goods on sale for Black Friday
I’ve mentioned this before, but I decided a few months ago to start buying cheap rugs, since I’m constantly and irreparably staining mine. By far the best one I’ve gotten is this furry one, which usually retails for around $20 and is down to $15.99. I’ve found it sturdy, durable, and consistently soft, but it’s time to swap it for a new one, and Black Friday is my moment.
Finally, I’ve been in the market for a new air purifier, since the one I have is just too big for my small apartment. This miniature one is marked down from $49.99 to $33.99, which makes it much more affordable for me, considering I’m angling to replace something I already have.
