It about two weeks since Sony finally unveiled the PS5 Pro, and all the processing power advancements that will come with it. In that short period of time, the console is now available for preorder, as are the bundles for the Anniversary editions—assuming Sony makes more of the latter.
Unfortunately for any fans of the aesthetics of the PSOne, Sony’s Anniversary products are all currently sold out. That includes the bundle for the PS5 Pro Anniversary edition, the bundle for the PS5 Digital Edition Slim Anniversary console, the DualSense Edge Anniversary edition, and the PlayStation Portal anniversary edition. All of these products sport a dark gray look with colorful buttons, in the style of the original PlayStation console. And all of these products have already been claimed by enthusiastic Sony fans.
To be clear, these are all the exact same products as their counterparts: The PS5 Slim Anniversary edition is no different than the standard model, while the Anniversary edition DualSense Edge controller works the same as the regular one. However, the console bundle does come with some fun accessories, like a charging cable that makes the controller’s plug look like it’s from the PSOne. But it plays the same games as the standard PlayStation 5, so if you don’t care for the aesthetic changes, that’s all that’s really new here.
While you wait for Sony to potentially make more of these products available, you can still preorder the new PS5 Pro. Sony hasn’t made any official specs available yet, but during its announcement video, the company said the new console has a upgraded GPU that can run more games at 4K 60 fps, with more ray-tracing effects. The Pro also takes advantage of something called PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), which uses AI to upscale the images in your games. Existing titles that are optimized for the console include Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
It won’t come cheap, though. The PS5 Pro costs $699.99, $200 more than the PS5 Slim. The latter actually comes with a disc drive and a stand, things you need to buy for the Pro if you want to play physical media or, you know, stand the console up. The disc drive is $79.99, while the stand is $29.99, so you’re looking at $809.97 for the whole deal. That’s an expensive console.
If you want to play PS5 games at their highest resolution, the Pro is the way to go. Still, games do look good on the standard PS5, and you can buy one without having to wait until the PS5 Pro’s Nov. 7 release date.
