October Prime Day is a great time to fill out the gaps in your home gym or grab a few nice things for your gym bag. Here are some of the best October Prime Day deals I found on fitness equipment, including excellent deals on adjustable dumbbells, treadmills, and more. Plus: Some really neat gym bags!
The best October Prime Day deals on Powerblock adjustable dumbbells
Powerblocks are pricey but beloved dumbbells for anyone who wants a small gym but is tight on space. And good news: At least seven different models are on sale for October Prime Day at steep discounts:
-
The Powerblock Elite EXP set, which goes from five to 50 pounds (“stage 1”), is normally $449/pair, but today is down to $299.99. (Its expansion kits are also on sale today.)
-
The smaller Sport 24 set, which goes from three to 24 pounds, is also on sale, down to $159.99 from $239.
-
Even the Powerblock 100s (yep, they go up to 100 pounds), normally $549 for a single, are down to $439 each.
The best Prime Day deals on heart rate monitors
Even if you have a smartwatch, the most accurate way to track your heart rate is with a chest strap that measures the electrical activity of your heart. (Watches use a green light to detect your pulse, which works OK most of the time, but is prone to error, especially if you’re moving around). The Polar H10 is an excellent chest strap, and it’s $76.46 today, down from $99.95. And for a budget option, this Coospo monitor (the same one I have) is just $23 today.
If you don’t love the chest strap format, Polar’s Verity Sense is an armband heart rate monitor, and it can also be worn on your temple, clipped to your goggles, when swimming. It’s an optical sensor, like on a watch, but armbands tend to get a better read on your heartbeat than watches. It’s $84.96 today, $99.95 normally.
The best October Prime Day deals on rowing machines
Sadly, the Concept2 (universally acclaimed as the best dang rowing machine out there) is not on sale today. But the Merach Q1SW is. It’s a budget rower, which our own Daniel Oropeza rated as pretty solid for casual exercisers, but unlikely to be a great pick if you’re very tall or if you’re serious about rowing. It’s normally $329.99, but today you can get it for $259.99.
There is also a YOSUDA water rower on offer, with steampunk-y wooden surfaces and resistance provided by actual water. Normally $499.99, today it’s $269.99 after applying a $100 on-page coupon.
The best October Prime Day deals on gym bags and water bottle holders
Everybody needs a good gym bag. My all-time favorite, the Adidas Defender in Small, isn’t on sale today—but its big sister, the Adidas Defender in Medium, is only $26.51 (normally $45).
This year, in addition to duffels, I’ve been looking at water bottle holders, too. These are essentially mini gym bags, so you can carry your water bottle, phone, and other small items around the gym floor with you. Some are even magnetic so you can stick them to a squat rack or exercise machine while you work out.
The best October Prime Day deals on treadmills
Today’s October Prime Day offerings on treadmills include a few NordicTrack T series machines, which are solid entry-level picks. (The Commercial series is, sadly, not on sale at the moment.) There are also sales on some walking pads, although Amazon’s search results are full of no-name brands with fake deals (hint: $169 down from $1,999.99 list price is pretty much always going to be an item that was $169 all along).
My picks below are all products that are actually on sale—I checked the price histories.
The best October Prime Day deals on Peloton bikes and equipment
I included the Peloton Tread in the treadmills list above, but don’t miss the other Peloton gear that’s on sale, including the iconic Bike, Bike+, and square-shaped dumbbells. The Bike is at a good price at $1,228.24, and the Bike+ is having one of its rare drops below the 2K mark, at $1,999.99.
When it comes to the function of Peloton’s dumbbells, any old dumbbell will do the same job (being heavy), so don’t think you need to get these specific ones to do Peloton strength workouts. But if you’ve already got a few pairs of the square kind, now is a good time to pick up more of them to complete your set. (While we’re at it, shoes, water bottles, and mats are also on sale—check out Amazon’s deal page for that gear here.)
The best October Prime Day deals on some cool-looking adjustable dumbbells
While I was scanning product listings for the deepest discounts and most useful-looking dumbbells, some of these fancier-looking ones kept catching my eye. Most are lighter than the dumbbells above and only have a few adjustment options, so they aren’t going to be as useful for as many people.
That said, while most of your strength training should probably use weights that are heavy (whatever “heavy” happens to be for you), there are also plenty of uses for lighter dumbbells. These lighter ones can be great for beginners, and as long as you’re getting excited about your new workout routine, why not buy a pair that looks cool?
Below are some adjustable dumbbell sets that look nifty, adjust to multiple weights, and happen to be discounted today. All of these are sold as pairs, but sometimes the weight is given as the total weight for the set (so, “40 pounds” may mean two 20-pound dumbbells.)
